In my extended research and reading about writing, self-publishing and book marketing process, I picked Rachel Aaron’s book From 2,000 to 10,000: How to write faster, writer better and write more of what you love. I tend to have small daily writing goals, as they tend to work better for me, even though I know that I go (way) over them about one third of the time. Yet, I am always interested in finding ways to increase my regular word count.
I enjoyed this book because it was very practical and straightforward. This is the kind of prefer for such topics. Her approach to outlining was preparing the actual writing to get things done quicker and better resonated well with me and I could see how I might tweak my current method. This is one of the books about writing craft that I have found most interesting and I recommend it.
Reading all these books about actual writing craft gives me new ideas and it also reminds me of all I already know thanks to my years of writing practice. It is reassuring because I spent the last years focused on non fiction/academic writing and not original fiction. I also realized that beyond the actual writing craft, what I need to focus on is gathering knowledge about the self-publishing process, which I have been doing and will continue to as I work on my upcoming Fantasy project.
Fabulous! I’ll check it out. I have so many projects and not enough organisation…let’s hope Rachel has a tip or two 🙂

I might try it for one of my short stories in the near future. I’m hoping that September will be fiction oriented!

Sounds good -I’m scared when I get to a point, my writing looks like this Blah, blah, blah, blah

I hear you. I tend to be on the “small” side of word count per day when I work on a project. Most of the time, if I write more (regardless of my muse and preparation), things turn into something weird and not as good.
