What I’m up to on Pinterest

I am still alive! I am closing in on the end of my vacation (which had turned out to be a whirlwind on many accounts!) Life has been very busy especially in the past two weeks. As I joke, I might need a vacation after my “vacation”! I am plotting many things, from books to blog projects, so stay tuned!

I have recently reorganized my Pinterest boards and am planning to be more active there from now on. I find the platform more interesting and engaging than I used to, so that’s a good thing!

I thought I would share the different boards I have with my readers and fellow bloggers! Since writing descriptions isn’t my favorite thing in the world, I made sure to have self-explanatory board names.

‘Blogging Paradise’ and ‘Healthy Living’ are the most recent, which is why there are way fewer pins for the moment!

I was also invited to  contribute to the following boards: ‘Writers Blog Posts‘ and ‘Share Your Blog!’

What about you? How do you feel about Pinterest? Do you use it? Are there any types of boards/subjects you’d be interested in me expanding to with my own boards?

Have a good week!

WordPress Input Needed

Since I have started using WordPress a little over two years ago, I have never regretted using it as my blogging platform. Yet, I have grown frustrated with my layout/theme for the past while. I have tried to check a few others out but I’ve not been convinced.

I need to have an extensive side bar, like I have now, to put several items in it. My menu bar on top doesn’t have so many categories, so it’s easy to find a theme that allows for that. I’m just not sure of what I could pick (free) theme wise. So, I’m looking for suggestion for a blog that isn’t image-oriented (there are pictures in all my posts but besides Silent Sunday, I very rarely have picture-only posts).

I was also wondering whether having my own domain prevented me from using the WordPress software. I never used any pluggins because I only worked with the online dashboard so far. I’ve been thinking about going for WordPress download and possible pluggins, so I could also do some CSS edits. At the same time, I’ve not touched any coding in several years and my only experience with it was to update my old website when somebody else had created the layout.

So, I’m hoping fellow WordPress users have some input to share. Thank you in advance!

The Digital Quill Answers: “What area would you choose to study if time was no object?”

What area would you choose to study if time was no object?

This is a question easy to answer! At this point, I would be interested to get back to learning other languages. In middle and high school, I studied English, Latin, German and Italian. At this point, I only use English though can still understand the others decently.

For years, I have been hoping to get to learn Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and Greek. Thing is that if I were to learn another language (provided I had time as the question mentions), I’d need to really have opportunities to practice it.

The Story Behind My Author Logo

The first time I had a logo was when I started vidding in 2005. After choosing my nickname of Aruna7, my father thought that a logo would be a nice thing. This was when he created my vidder logo, which I still use up to this day. I love it a lot and always include it at the end of my vidding projects.

LogoSigEarlier this year, when I moved to indie publishing for my writing, both fiction and nonfiction, and that I thought about adding print editions for my longer works, my father had the idea of creating a logo for me. He loves doing such types of work, and this was how I got my author logo. I add it on the back cover of print and at the front of some e-short reads.

I log how it turned out and I hope to get a new header featuring it for the blog and Twitter in the near future, since it already shows up on my new Facebook page header!

Next Week on the Blog

On Tuesday, Rose B. Fischer returns with the last post for her series Fangirls Just Wanna Have Fun (Discussing the lighter side of fanfiction), and on Thursday, there will be the weekly The Digital Quill Answers.

This week, I participated to SF Signal’ MIND MELD: How Do You Choose Your Next Read? It was a lot of fun and I was very happy to be invited to participate.

Have a great weekend!

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Thank you very much to Sally from Smorgasbord for nominating me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award! If you don’t know or follow her blog yet, you should check it out.

sisterhood-award1Here are the rules of engagement.
Thank the giver and link their blog to your post.
Answer the 10 questions given to you.
Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers of your choice and let them know that they have been nominated.
Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog.

Here are the questions that Sally asked:

1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

I am very bad at picking just one person/item, or even a few. I will go with Gillian Anderson. Not only is she my favorite actress but I have great admiration for the woman and artist.

2. What are you most proud of about your blog?

The relationships I have build with fellow bloggers and readers.

3. What would constitute a perfect day for you?

Waking up after a good night of sleep, enjoying a solid and healthy breakfast. I’d go for a walk with a lovely weather (not too hot, even a beautiful winter day would do it). Then I’d work on my writing projects, with my kitty Kenzi demanding attention and cuddles in between. I’d have dinner with family and/or friends and then maybe write some more with one too many teapot for the day.

4. Name three things you and your best friend or partner have in common.

Being geeks, loving our pets and enjoying a nice walk.

5. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?

Teleportation so I could visit all my friends across the world without any problem.

6. Have you ever had your fortune told and how was it?

Yes, I have. Certain things turned out to be true.

7. Do you have an ambition that still needs to be realised.

Yes. I’d love to win a literary award and earn decent money from my writing.

8. What do you value most in a friendship?

Trust, support and loyalty.

9. What is your most treasured memory?

Too many to name but I have a soft spot for the days I met both my cats (the first in 1993 and the current one in December 2014).

10. How would you describe yourself to a stranger in 20 words or less?

Hi! I am Natacha, a feminist and geeky writer who loves Science Fiction and cats.

My nominees:

I have come across so many talented and kind women bloggers that I leave the nominations open to any of them wanting to grab the award, if you follow the blog. You are amazing, ladies! As for the questions, I’d use the same as Sally because they made me think.
