Looking for Advice on Freelance Writing

After a busy – and productive – summer of writing, editing, book marketing, with much more to come, I have new projects for this Fall.

I am currently looking to relocate and am looking for a full time paid position if possible in the UK (though I am open to opportunities in the US and Canada). I am hoping to get a job in the creative, media, cultural industries or higher education. As long as my language, writing, social media, public speaking skills are a good fit, I remain flexible and open-minded about possibilities. So, if anyone has suggestions, feel free to let me know. I am always glad to discuss more in depth about what I am looking for via message.

In the meantime, I am thinking about delving into freelance writing as a side income source. I have already done some research on my own but this field is quite large and finding out the best place to start can be a little daunting.

This is why I am turning to my fellow bloggers for advice on where to find freelance writing paid gigs. I know some of you freelance in writing and editing, so any suggestion would be welcome. Thank you very much in advance for your input!

Natacha: Do you know about Guru.com? Check it out as a source of available freelance writing and editing assignments. Our editing assignments come from my husband’s connections at several universities, but we are specialized in the fields of medicine and public health. The former requires medical knowledge, which my husband has as a retired physician and epidemiologist, and the latter requires knowledge of the public health system, which we both possess. I suggest you contact university departments that mirror your university background to see if the faculty work with freelance writers or editors. You can also contact university professional development offices to see if there is a list of approved editors for post-doc fellows to contact for editorial services. Best wishes, Jennie

Hi J.C.! Thank you for stopping by. This article is one of the few I already had but I am very happy to see that others find it useful. So far, it has been the most useful I have read. Good luck with your projects too! 🙂
