Sinead DeBeynac, The Hutt Cartel

Sinead is the one of the two characters I write at SWRPG that wasn’t originally created on these boards. I created her at The Gungan Council during the brief time I spent writing there. I enjoyed Sinead a lot and thus decided to have her as well at my online home, SWRPG. I originally used singer Taylor Swift for her but eventually switched to actress Rachel Skarsten, to whom I have stuck for the past couple of years. Since using this actress, I also added Valkyrie from Marvel as a secondary image claim.
Sinead left her home world of Zelos II when banished because of accusation of witchcraft by people from her village. The young blonde was a half bloodied Zelosian, fathered by a human traveler she never knew. Due to her interest in many things from off world and her strong personality, she became an outcast, and left to explore the galaxy, when she was thrown away from home due to the false accusations. Being half Zelosian, she retains certain characteristics from her mother’s species, such as chlorophyll instead of blood in her veins, easy intoxication on sugar, but strong resistance to alcohol. She doesn’t suffer from the night blindness though. Hot and dry weathers are nevertheless difficult for her.
The blonde became a skilled thief over the years, even before she decided to work for the Hutt Cartel. She climbed up through the ranks with dedication and ease, enjoying the pay and the new options, which also challenged her to develop her talents. She became one of Vaago’s lieutenants after a few years, and oversaw the different mercenaries working for the Cartel. For a very long time I had Sinead unable to pilot a ship, and thus, often relying on public shuttles. I also had her have an interest in wood sculpting and jewelry crafting, but she is still in the early stages of getting back into these creative outlets.
For more than a year, Sinead had a relationship with whom she thought was the love of her life, a female Jedi master. While the two were about to get married, things took a drastic turn and they ended going their separate ways, which broke Sinead’s heart. Yet, she wasn’t angry at her ex fiancée, preferring that their relationship had ended than her love having been miserable if they had married. Following these events, I had a difficult time getting Sinead back on track.
She got hardened by this heartbreak and turned her back to her few ties with the Jedi. A while later, she accepted an offer from the imperials as to collaborate on certain missions with them. The female imperial agent she was assigned to work with eventually made her forget about her ex-fiancée. Sinead also spent more time getting to know her family from her father’s side, which included a Sith master and his son.
At this time in Sinead’s story, she reunited with her former fiancée and they were able to talk about what happened. They have now both moved on with their lives, and Sinead is currently seeing the female imperial agent she has been working with for the past months.
- Do your characters’ physiology bring challenges to their everyday life?
- Do some of your character prefer unarmed combat to the use of weapons?
- Do some of your characters present fluctuating allegiances?
I love the idea of her not being able to pilot a ship and having to use public ones. It’s those kind of details that make a character feel real, rather than flat 🙂

Thank you! She manages to fly a ship at this stage in her story, but she doesn’t like it and still rely on public transportation as much as she can! I find it a funny quirk. 🙂

I actually do have characters who prefer unarmed combat. They are raised on it and it’s a right of passage for them to fight certain beasts unarmed.
I really appreciate all of the work you do with these posts. They are great.

Thanks for your kind words! I’m glad that people have enjoyed this series (conlusion post next week until the next edition). I love unarmed combat and I find it fascinating to have characters specialize in such forms. 🙂

I used to take Ju-Jitsu and loved the feeling of unarmed combat. Now I just have to try to remember what I learned so I can write the fight scenes.

Combat writing used to be a horrid experience for me. Thanks to a couple of friends (and tons of roleplaying) I managed to earn my stripes bit by bit. I am able to do different styles of fighting now, including unarmed. Reading a lot (watching movies and TV too) and sometimes moving around the room to get a better feel, help a lot.

I need a couple of friends like yours. I read a ton so that is helping me to visualize the forms needed. I watch lots of action movies just for kicks and giggles so I think I will start paying more attention to the fight scenes to see if I can write them as an exercise.

I bet I am hilarious when figuring writing scenes out. Now I don’t do this as often, but many times in the past, I grabbed a roll of wrapping paper and was pretending it was a lightsaber to visualize my Star Wars RP combats.

Now that I’d love to see.

If one day we meet, I will be happy to demonstrate opening stances and certain moves from the 7 forms of lightsaber combat (just don’t expect to me to jump around and perform acrobatics!)

I am glad to know that I will get to know even more about Sinead in the future through a character of my own. Though it is too bad that he isn’t a pilot, though obviously being a droid he could be programmed to do so. (if he wants)
Do any of my character’s physiology bring challenges to their lives? Rel, flesh eating virus that will kill him when exposed to oxygen. Rakai, posseses no vocal cords, so he cannot speak at all in null-Force area or when hiding his Force signature. Derakai is blind in one eye, even though the ‘eye’ can technically see, and if he doesn’t wear his eye patch it is disturbing to see a Jedi with such an eye.
Oh, unarmed. If I could get away with it, Rakai would nothing but! Though I consider him using his clawed gauntlets as unarmed. Most of his foes use lightsabers though, and I would fight them unarmed if his claws were fully heat resistant. I would love to spar unarmed against an operative for the Galactic Empire, and would even take off his claws for it. I always wanted Rakai to use only his claws, but this just isn’t the Galaxy for him.

I am very excited about the storyline with your character and Sinead! He’ll definitely need to get piloting programming! That’s one big reason besides playing bodyguard, Sinead will accept to get him and provide upgrades of all sorts.
I’m sure we can arrange for Alienor and Rakai to duel unarmed at some point. She retained her Echani batlle knowledge and has been training more and more. She can be pretty vicious as an Operative. 😉

That will definitely be happening with Omega, though when it does it will be a neat little surprise. Right now he’s got junk for legs so his movement and climbing speed is quarter of what it can be. Lol he just needed to get around without crawling. I think one of the greatest advantages of having him around, instead of a normal droid, is the fact that he surprisingly talks like a person, not a droid.
And yes, Alienor and Rakai sparring is a possibility, and he would already be choosing not to use his lightsaber gauntlets against any Imperial. Though they are capable of doing so, in his mind, they shouldn’t have to dirty their hands fighting Jedi or other Force users, so he doesn’t have to help them train to defend themselves from lightsaber attacks.
