TV Review: Beauty and the Beast Season 2 (Episodes 18 to 22)

I recently caught up with the final season 2 episodes (18 to 22) of Beauty and the Beast and I wasn’t disappointed. I think that the show turning into a single man’s mad vengeance with Gabe worked very well, more than I first expected. I think that the writers did a solid job at having the character evolve since the first season and how his madness grew bit by bit. It made his fall credible. I was pleasantly surprised that it was Catherine who ended his life in self defense, instead of Vincent being the one doing the kill, and that they had both tried to get him to justice first.

Catherine and Vincent still have good chemistry and I like how their relationship can still grow  through their struggles. I think that the writers are doing an interesting and meaningful job with this central narrative. I also enjoyed how we saw glimpses into Catherine’s ancestor and her past and how it impacted Catherine, prompting her to eventually make her own choices.

I still don’t really know how I feel about Catherine’s younger sister. I always want to like her, but I don’t know…

I loved to see more of Tess and JT as well, as I think their relationship works nicely too. I was horrified when a beasted Gabe turned JT into shreds and until the last moment, I really thought that the character would die (and I would have been very angry with the writers).

Finally, I liked how they brought new players in, planting seeds for the third season. I am very curious to see where this is going.

This show alternately makes we want to serial watch it in Netflix or run away from the drama. I like gentle drama not nail biting the entire season drama. But this show has sucked me in. Looks like I need to finish season 2!

I didn’t try the show until it was already in season 2 (end of 2013) and I marathoned everything available back then! Since then I was hooked, though I didn’t like how fragmented the second season airing was. Enjoy the rest of season 2!

Glad that my reviews make you want to watch the show! A few times I got unsure about story developments but the writers always reassured me and made things work within 2-3 episodes into a ‘new’ arcs, so that’s a good point. And props for them for not making me throw tomatoes at them at the end of this season as they really scared me! 😀
